web site related to the Coulee Region (greater La Crosse, WI area).

to the local community, businesses, organizations, and people. In comparing

Using the CouleeRegion.com Search Index
Using the CouleeRegion.com
Search Index is easy. There is a text entry field for you to enter key
words to search for, a pop-up menu that allows you to limit your search
to specific categories, and a SEARCH button to send off your search
request. A web page will be returned to you to allow you to view the
results of your search.
Keyword Field
The Keyword text entry field allows you to specify text fragments
that you wish to find. If do not enter a keyword, you will be asking
for ALL entries for the selected category.
Keywords are NOT case sensitive, so it doesn't matter how you
capitalize your keywords.
Use the radio buttons at the bottom of the search interface (Any Word,
All Words, Phrase) to specify how the keyword text should be interpreted:
Any Word - At least one of the specified keywords (or word
fragments) must match to be included in the search results. Keywords
are separated by spaces.
All Words - Every specified key word (or word fragment) must
match to be included in the search results. Key words can be in any
order separated by spaces.
Phrase - Exact match of all keyword text is required to be
included in search results. Spaces are not separators, but part of
the text to be matched.
Category Menu
The Category pop-up menu allows you to select a category that
you wish to limit your keyword search to. Choosing all categories means
that the complete CouleeRegion.com
Search Index will be used.
Search Button
The Search button initiates a search with the keyword and category
values that have been entered.

The search index will index all words in the following fields:
URL, Title, Description, Categories, and Keywords. When a user
enters a keyword that is contained in any part of a word in any of a
listing's fields, the word will be matched.
When the user selects a category (or set of categories), then
only entries assigned to that category are returned.
A good search entry will include many likely search words in its
description. The Keyword field entries can be used to further specifiy
words that will match on a search, but will not be displayed in the
search index entry. Searching is NOT case sensitive
Below is a description and help for each of the fields on the Add
URL form :
URL:
This is the address of the web page (or other kinds of internet services
like ftp, wais, gopher, etc) that you are adding to the CouleeRegion.com
Search Index. This URL is used by the search index to create a link
from the search index to your internet site.
The URL field for the example above would look like this:
Web Page Title:
Type the name or title of this web page. This title will be displayed
at the top of your entry when it is returned by the search index.
The Title field for the example above would look like this:
Web Site Description:
This field is a place for you to put a brief description of the contents
of the Internet site that you are adding to the search index. This will
be the main text that is displayed when your entry is returned by the
search index.
The Title field for the example above would look like this:
Categories:
Select all categories that apply (this is a multiple selection list).
The Category selection fields for the example above would look like
this:
If you would like to suggest a new category (one that is not in the
list), you can mention that in the comment section (see below), It would
be good to also type the suggested category name in the keyword section
in case your category suggestion is not added to the category list.
If you would like to suggest a new category (one that is not in the
list), you can mention that in the comment section (see below). It would
be good to also type the suggested category name in the keyword section
in case your category suggestion is not added to the category list.
Each suggestion will be considered, and evaluated to see how appropriate
it would be to add the category. Categories are carefully selected to
break up the listings into manageable sized lists. For example, a category
that contains only one listing may be too specific.
A table of search index categories and their descriptions are available
for review under our listing
guidelines.
Keywords:
Keyword entries can be used to further specifiy words that will match
on a search, but will not be displayed in the search index entry.
When a user searches on a keyword, they will find any URL entry in the
database (for the selected category) that contains the keyword in any
part of the URL, Title, Description, Category, or Keyword fields.
A good search entry will include many likely search words in its description
and title. The Keyword fields can be used to further specifiy words
that will match on a search, but will not be displayed in the search
index entry. There is no need to list keywords that are already contained
in your title, description, URL, or categories (these will aready
be indexed).
Below is an example of keywords that might be used with theexample listed
above:
